UV radiation is the main factor accelerating the ageing of the skin. Therefore, it can be said that UV filters are some of the main rejuvenating ingredients to reach for in your daily skin care, especially during the summer. How else is it worth preparing your skin to meet the sun?
How does the sun affect the skin?
It is believed that up to 80% of skin ageing symptoms are caused by excessive exposure to the sun, and only 20% are caused by genes. It is the bad news and the good news. It is bad because still many people do not follow the principles for the safe use of the sun, which results in an increasing number of cases of melanoma, the most dangerous skin cancer. It is also good because you have a huge impact on the pace at which you will age and how you will age. UV radiation quickly wreak havoc on human tissues. This is especially true for UVA rays – i.e. those rays that are more insidious, because they penetrate through clouds and glass, do not give a warning signal in the form of erythema, act with the same intensity throughout the year and penetrate deep into the dermis. UVA rays:
- lead to rapid degradation of collagen and elastin, which causes sagging and drooping of tissues,
- cause strong oxidative stress in the skin,
- interfere with the protective functions of the hydro-lipid barrier,
- disturb the blood supply to the skin and its metabolism,
- affect the work of melanocytes, causing discolouration.
As a result, the skin becomes flaccid, dry, matt, sallow and rough. Broken blood vessels appear on it, rosacea intensifies, wrinkles deepen, the skin is more prone to irritation and pigmentation changes. These are typical symptoms of photo-aging, but we can prevent them effectively.
How to prepare your skin for the summer?
The sun improves the mood, and holiday trips give you energy for the whole year! No wonder most of us are waiting for summer with such longing. However, the same cannot be said for your skin – the summer season is really the worst time of the year for it, especially if you neglect its care and protection. Therefore, it is worth using treatments that will help to strengthen it against the harmful effects of the sun during this time. We particularly recommend:
- Mesotherapy – injection of noncross-linked hyaluronic acid is the fastest method of deep hydration of the skin. If we reach for revitalizing preparations with additional active ingredients, including antioxidants, the skin will be fresh and radiant, its tension and elasticity will improve. There are also special cocktails available to prevent discolouration. A novelty is Cellboostertissue regenerators. They are administered by mesotherapy and provide a strong and lasting effect of skin regeneration and revitalisation.
- Cleansing, moisturizing and oxygenating treatmentse.g. Hydrafacial, Geneo or Aquapure – is an absolute “must-do” for the summer, because then the skin is most exposed to pollution, dryness and loss of radiance. Just one treatment makes it look fresh and beautiful, but it is best to perform a series to maintain the effect of perfectly groomed skin.
- Regenerative treatmentssuch as platelet-rich plasma, and biostimulative treatments (e.g., KarismaNucleoLift, Plinest) take care of the quality of the skin from within, leading to its firming, thickening and nourishing so that it is better protected against photoageing.
Jak zniwelować objawy fotostarzenia?
Preventing them is better than curing them, but of course, we have many methods at our disposal to effectively deal with the symptoms of photoageing, such as loss of skin firmness and volume due to collagen degradation, hyperpigmentation, erythema or grey, tired tone and post-sun keratosis. These include hyaluronic acid-based preparations (fillers and mesotherapy), excellent tissue biostimulators, lasers, and hi-tech devices. At our clinic, we always plan a comprehensive therapy individually tailored to the patient's needs and indications, usually starting with a thorough cleansing and refreshing of the skin, and we also recommend appropriate home care. The sooner you act, the better – and many treatments can be done safely in the summer, even laser treatments, such as the much-loved “laser shower,” Aerolase LightPod Neowhich eliminates all signs of photoageing without pain and with no recovery period. After all treatments, it is important to protect your skin from the sun.
Antioxidant shield
On sunny days, the skin also needs protection from free radicals, which are largely produced in the skin by UV radiation. In summer, their effects are compounded by the dangerous combination of UVA radiation with pollutants, more precisely with the microparticulate dust present in smog, which causes very strong oxidative stress and destroys the skin’s hydro-lipid barrier. Therefore, a good habit during the summer would be to use treatments and care with antioxidants, such as vitamin C – serums containing it are best applied to the skin in the evening. I also recommend drinking blended fruit and vegetables rich in natural vitamin C, for example, based on lemon and parsley – such a cocktail has many benefits: it has an antioxidant effect, stimulates collagen production in the skin (it is great after biostimulation treatments), makes it easier to take care of a slim body, and gives you energy! It is important to use whole fruit and vegetables blended with water instead of puree.
