Beware of sunshine! How to prepare your skin for the summer?

UV radiation is the main factor accelerating the ageing of the skin. Therefore, it can be said that UV filters are some of the main rejuvenating ingredients to reach for in your daily skin care, especially during the summer. How else is it worth preparing your skin to meet the sun?

How does the sun affect the skin?

It is believed that up to 80% of skin ageing symptoms are caused by excessive exposure to the sun, and only 20% are caused by genes. It is the bad news and the good news. It is bad because still many people do not follow the principles for the safe use of the sun, which results in an increasing number of cases of melanoma, the most dangerous skin cancer. It is also good because you have a huge impact on the pace at which you will age and how you will age. UV radiation quickly wreak havoc on human tissues. This is especially true for UVA rays – i.e. those rays that are more insidious, because they penetrate through clouds and glass, do not give a warning signal in the form of erythema, act with the same intensity throughout the year and penetrate deep into the dermis. UVA rays:

  • lead to rapid degradation of collagen and elastin, which causes sagging and drooping of tissues,
  • cause strong oxidative stress in the skin,
  • interfere with the protective functions of the hydro-lipid barrier,
  • disturb the blood supply to the skin and its metabolism,
  • affect the work of melanocytes, causing discolouration.

As a result, the skin becomes flaccid, dry, matt, sallow and rough. Broken blood vessels appear on it, rosacea intensifies, wrinkles deepen, the skin is more prone to irritation and pigmentation changes. These are typical symptoms of photo-aging, but we can prevent them effectively.

How to prepare your skin for the summer?

The sun improves the mood, and holiday trips give you energy for the whole year! No wonder most of us are waiting for summer with such longing. However, the same cannot be said for your skin – the summer season is really the worst time of the year for it, especially if you neglect its care and protection. Therefore, it is worth using treatments that will help to strengthen it against the harmful effects of the sun during this time. We particularly recommend:
