CO2 laser – what is it?
Laser frakcyjny CO2 zapewnia wszechstronne odmłodzenie i przebudowę skóry. Widocznymi efektami są poprawa napięcia i ujędrnienie skóry, wygładzenie zmarszczek, zwężenie porów, spłycenie blizn, wyrównanie struktury skóry i ujednolicenie jej kolorytu. Laser CO2 może też być stosowany do „wypalania” zmian skórnych znajdujących się na ciele i twarzy, w tym na niezwykle delikatnej powierzchni powiek (na powiekach górnych i dolnych, także przy linii rzęs). Wywołana laserem przebudowa skóry powoduje poprawę owalu, redukcję blizn potrądzikowych czy rozstępów. Skóra staje się napięta, gładka, jednolita, pełna świeżości i blasku.

Laser CO2 wykorzystuje długość fali 10600 nm, co zapewnia intensywne przegrzanie tkanek i pobudzenie ich do głębokiej przebudowy tkanek. Mówimy wtedy o tzw. resurfacingu skóry. Jest to laser ablacyjny, a więc związany z odparowaniem tkanek. Może działać w trybie frakcyjnym (poprawa jakości skóry) lub chirurgicznym (usuwanie zmian funkcją noża laserowego). Promieniowanie lasera CO2 jest silnie absorbowane przez wodę – podstawowy składnik tkanek. Pochłonięte promieniowanie zmienia się w ciepło, które w zależności od dostarczonej dawki grzeje, odparowuje (ablacja) lub zwęgla tkanki. Spośród urządzeń do ablacji najbardziej istotne napięcie skóry zachodzi właśnie za sprawą lasera CO2. To obecnie najpopularniejszy laser stosowany w zabiegach frakcyjnych – a więc takich, w których przegrzewamy tkanki punktowo, robiąc w niej mikroskopijne kolumny uszkodzeń, co powoduje szybsze gojenie się skóry i pobudza jej intensywną przebudowę. Dzięki temu krótszy jest też czas rekonwalescencji w porównaniu do tradycyjnej technologii niefrakcyjnej oraz mniejsze ryzyko powikłań. Ze względu na intensywność działania, zwykle wystarczą 1-3 zabiegi dla uzyskania satysfakcjonujących efektów.
Laser ma wszechstronne działanie (przebudowa skóry, zastosowanie chirurgiczne), dzięki czemu może być stosowany praktycznie na całej twarzy (także na delikatnej okolicy oczu) oraz na całym ciele (np. w redukcji blizn czy rozstępów oraz odmładzaniu szyi, dekoltu czy dłoni).

It is very common to see a visible skin rejuvenation effect with just one treatment. For advanced signs of ageing or scarring, it is usually necessary to perform 2-3 repetitions at intervals of 4-6 weeks. The treatment plan can be modified in its course, depending on how your skin reacts.
Deep skin remodelling induces comprehensive skin rejuvenation, so you can count on:
- reduction of wrinkles and furrows,
- brightening of skin tone,
- unification of skin structure,
- thickening and firming the skin,
- reduction of scars and stretch marks,
- reduction of large pores,
- overall rejuvenation of the face, neck, décolleté or hands,
- removal of dermatological lesions (e.g., warts, fibromas, viral lesions), including from the eyelid area.

The CO2 laser causes strong overheating of tissues, so we perform the procedure after applying an anaesthetic cream. During the process, the skin is also cooled intensively with a special medical cooler.
Recovery

The laser requires about 7-10 days of recovery. During this time, the skin may be reddened, tight, slightly swollen, and traces of the laser action (“dots”) may be visible on the skin.
CO2 laser – how does the procedure work?
The treatment is preceded by makeup removal and thorough skin cleansing, as well as the application of anaesthetic cream for at least 30-40 minutes (occlusion under the film). Despite the anaesthesia, the patient may feel some discomfort during the procedure due to the strong overheating of the skin. In addition, there is often an unpleasant burning smell (due to evaporation of the epidermis). To improve comfort throughout the treatment (and for a few more minutes afterwards), we use strong cooling of the skin. The whole procedure fortunately takes quite a short time – about 15-30 minutes. Finally, we apply a regenerating and dressing cream and a high SPF sunscreen to the skin.
CO2 laser – how to prepare for the procedure?
The procedure does not require special preparation, but it is always good to take care of adequate tissue hydration (we recommend drinking at least 1.5-2 litres of water a day). Well-hydrated skin responds better to the CO2 laser (its energy is absorbed by the water contained in the tissues).
Be sure to avoid factors that sensitise the skin to light, which can result in its burning or later complications in the form of hyperpigmentation, and so:
- the skin should not be recently tanned; preferably wait approx. 4 weeks,
- the skin should also not be treated with self-tanner, wait until the artificial tan has completely faded and do not use any bronzers,
- also avoid treatments and cosmetics with irritating effects, such as chemical peels, before treatment,
- do not use any retinol or vitamin C creams for a minimum of 2 weeks,
- do not use any retinoids for at least 6 weeks,
- watch out for photosensitising ingredients, such as some herbs.

CO2 laser – recommendations after the procedure
The skin after the procedure is heavily reddened, swollen and tightened, you may even sense “crust” on your face. It is very important to follow the recommendations you will receive at our clinic during your recovery. The most important recommendations are:
- on the day of the treatment, do not wash your face and do not apply any creams,
- don’t touch your face with dirty hands, don’t wipe it with a used towel, don't cuddle with pets, change the pillowcase on which you sleep to a clean one, etc.,
- from the next day, cleanse the skin with mild cleansers and moisturise it intensively, applying a post-treatment cream even several times a day to speed up healing,
- avoid swimming pools, gyms, hot baths, and saunas for at least 2 weeks,
- absolutely protect your skin with a high SPF sunscreen,
- you can safely apply makeup (preferably mineral makeup) around 3-5 days after the procedure,
- we also recommend continuing vitamin C supplementation for at least one month after the treatment.
After applying the laser to remove a dermatological lesion (such as a wart), a black mark may be visible on the skin for a few days – do not scrape or tear it off; wait for it to fall off by itself.

FAQ – frequently asked questions about CO2 laser
The CO2 laser has a very strong photo-rejuvenating effect, so it can replace many other treatments that improve the appearance and quality of the skin. We can, of course, supplement its effects with, for example, botulinum toxin, fillers or refreshing and cleansing treatments. However, it is a prerequisite that the sequence of all treatments and the intervals between them are planned in advance for the safety and effectiveness of the entire treatment (e.g. the laser must not be used shortly after administering fillers or performing a chemical peel). Absolutely! The procedure involves a really strong action of high energy on the skin, which is felt as overheating and burning of the skin. The anaesthetic cream applied beforehand and intense cooling of the skin during the procedure significantly improve the comfort of the procedure, so you don’t have to worry about pain.
We strongly discourage it! The skin is highly sensitised to the sun after the laser application, so it is easy to develop complications such as difficult-to-remove discolouration. You would have to apply a high-protection sunscreen non-stop and stay in the shade to reduce this risk – during the summer months it is simply unrealistic. Therefore, we recommend putting off treatment until autumn and winter.
The first effects are visible about 7-10 days after the procedure, when the skin has fully healed. It involves improved firmness, radiance, reduced pores, and evened out texture. For the final result, you will have to wait about 3-6 months, as this is how long the laser-induced skin remodelling takes.
