Unwanted souvenirs after the summer

We look forward to summer all year! Good mood, trips, beach chill-out – that is it! Our skin, unfortunately, does not share our enthusiasm for summer holidays – it is definitely the most difficult time of the year for the skin, and we want to get rid of the souvenirs that the sun leaves on it as soon as possible. So, what treatments are worth getting after summer at our clinic?

Did you know that UV radiation is a major factor in accelerating skin ageing? It is responsible for this process in 80%, and only 20% is determined by genes. It is the bad news... and the good news. It is bad because many people do not know how to safely and sensibly enjoy the benefits of the sun. And it is good because we have a real influence on most of the symptoms of photoageing – on their type and rate of appearance – first of all, by including effective sun protection in our daily care! On top of that, today, we can quickly eliminate many unwanted skin “souvenirs” in the clinic. This does not mean, of course, that we can expose our skin with impunity – summer, especially sunny and hot, is a really extreme time for it. What marks does it leave?

Tired, rough skin

Thickening and keratosis are some of the most common symptoms of photoageing. Often, after the summer, the skin becomes rough, dull, thickened, and uneven. Additionally, blackheads and large pores appear on it, and it looks contaminated. Therefore, treatment No. 1 that we offer to our patients is a deep cleansing and refreshing of the skin with the use of excellent devices for hydro-peeling, hydrabrasion, microdermabrasion, or oxybrasion, such as Geneo, Aquapure, Hydrafacial or SilkPeelMost often, we combine them with the application of active ingredients to deeply moisturize the skin and provide it with a radiant glow. After the summer, individually selected chemical peels will also work perfectly, which additionally have rejuvenating, brightening, regulating, or strengthening effects. Exfoliating the epidermis prepares the skin for further repair and, possibly, aesthetic treatments.

The skin wants to drink!

Despite the use of moisturising creams, the skin is often dry after the summer. It also applies to oily and combination skin, the condition of which improves under the influence of the sun (unfortunately, only temporarily; in autumn, the overproduction of sebum usually returns with redoubled intensity). What is the fastest way to deeply moisturise dehydrated skin? Here, the absolute hit is mesotherapy mesotherapy which moisturises and revitalises the skin. For example, the mesoestetic mesohyal vitamin C preparation will be perfect after sun exposure as it has a strong antioxidant effect and reduces the damage resulting from oxidative stress caused by excessive exposure to UV radiation. And if the skin of the face or décolleté has become thin and flabby, and fine wrinkles and post-sun “creases” have increased on it, it is worthwhile to perform biostimulating treatments, such as those based on polynucleotides.

Post-sun discolouration

The skin darkens under the influence of excessive exposure to the sun, and, in addition, this process may be exacerbated by hormonal changes, e.g. during pregnancy. Summer is, therefore, conducive to pigmentation changes which are some of the most common and, unfortunately, the most difficult to treat “souvenirs” after a hot holiday. Cleansing and refreshing treatments, combined with active ingredients such as vitamin C, will give a beautiful brightening effect and uniform skin tone. However, if you have dark spots, we recommend laser treatments with, for example, our bestselling Aerolase “laser shower” which is effective even in the case of resistant and deep pigmentation changes. laser CO2.

Remember, however, that high sun protection is absolutely required after laser therapy; otherwise the discolouration will return, and it might be even deeper and more difficult to remove as a result of the reaction of laser-sensitised skin to sunlight. Therefore, plan your treatments so that you can easily protect yourself from the sun afterwards – if you are planning a holiday in September, schedule a treatment only after you return, and preferably in late autumn or winter. Of course, in the hot countries of the South, laser treatments are also very popular, so summer is not an absolute contraindication to their performance. However, they require scrupulous and reliable application of a sunscreen. In autumn and winter, in our climate conditions, it will simply be easier for you to protect your skin.

Erythema and spider veins

It is another post-holiday dermatological problem resulting from skin exposure to the sun and high temperatures without proper protection. Summer also often sees an increase in rosacea symptoms in both men and women. In such a case, we recommend laser treatments as a very effective method of closing blood vessels and relieving even extensive erythema. In our clinic, we use a modern Varilite Cuteravascular laser that allows us to remove all kinds of vascular changes. The Aerolase laser (the so-called laser shower) also produces very good results. However, keep in mind that in this way we remove only their symptoms, not their causes, so it is also very important to take prevention measures and use proper care and treatments recommended by our specialists to strengthen the vessels. You should also avoid factors that may aggravate vascular problems, such as UV radiation, sudden temperature changes, spicy food, hot baths and saunas.
